Hello guys and welcome again to my blog. How are you all doing today? I hope all of you are doing fine. Sundays for me are meant for two things: fulfilling religious responsibilities and family time. And family time I did spend with my mom in a local mall in order to eat, relax, have her glasses corrected, and attend a con? The Mal Con 2024 was held in Star Mall San Jose Del Monte from April 19 until today where I accidentally discovered it together with my mom. I’m not the type of person who is always up to date with local cons like this since the only ones I would mostly hear about would be in SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, and other malls located at a great distance from where I live.
Getting to Mal Con 2024 is free unlike all the cons I’ve attended previously which is nice since I’m kind of broke after buying a new printer. I also noticed that the venue is not jam-packed compared to the ones I’ve attended in the past. Perhaps the reasons there are few people attending today is because most of the attendees already went to the con during day 1 and 2. Another factor to consider is that the actual mall itself is located away from urban areas that are heavily populated, or it might be just lack of advertising. The venue is also quite modest with sufficient booths for anime merchandise being sold.
I could not tell which are fakes from authentic ones, but I have a feeling most of the products for sale are bootlegs. For now, I’ll just post a bunch of photos from the sellers from the con.
I can vouch that all the model kits in this booth are all authentic since I’ve checked ’em. I no longer build model kits since I had a bad experience with the parts breaking which made me really upset.
The con also had other events like an auction in between and also an anime singing competition. Most of the contestants are in full cosplay although I’m not sure if this is one of the requirements. This is actually the first time I’ve seen a person cosplaying as Goku. RIP Akira Toriyama.
And another contestant as Fuu for the manga and anime Magic Knight Rayearth. I held back on taking more photos since my battery is about to run out and I also cannot shake the feeling that some of the people cosplaying (especially the cat girl maids) are traps lying in wait.
Overall, it was a relaxing con I happen to find and attend by pure accident. I had a good time browsing the booths and the people in the singing contest were good. I just hope more events like this would appear near my area to reduce my exhaustion and also for convenience. I also bought a tapestry that I think is authentic, but I’m not sure 100%. Well, that’s all for today. Until next time dear readers!

Wow, what a lucky surprise! It looks like everyone was having fun, that’s the most important part of a con. Real or fake, a lot of that merch looked really cool.

Thanks for reading! yeah it was completely serendipity for that con. Personally, I’d still go with authentic anime merchandise.
